Embracing the French Dream Home
Leaving behind the fast-paced life of San Diego, California, I embarked on a journey to fulfill my long-held aspiration of owning a French dream home. The allure of France's rich history and tranquil countryside had always captivated me. In 2023, I made the bold decision to relocate my family to Castelnaudary, a picturesque town in the southwest of France. This move marked the beginning of a new chapter, embracing the charm and serenity of small-town French living.
Discovering Castelnaudary

Castelnaudary, with its population of around thirteen thousand, offers a stark contrast to the bustling streets of San Diego. Known as the "world cassoulet capital," this town is steeped in culinary tradition and history. The Canal du Midi, a UNESCO World Heritage site, meanders through the town, providing scenic walking paths and a glimpse into France's engineering marvels of the 17th century. The Grand Bassin, the largest open body of water on the canal, is a focal point for both locals and visitors, offering opportunities for boating and leisurely strolls (Complete France).
Restoring a Century-Old French Dream Home

Our new abode, a 100-year-old house, required thoughtful renovations to blend modern comforts with its historic charm. Preserving original features like exposed wooden beams and stone walls was paramount, as they narrate the story of the home's past. Incorporating local materials and traditional craftsmanship not only maintained the house's authenticity but also supported the local economy (FrenchEntrée). This restoration journey was both challenging and rewarding, resulting in a harmonious blend of old-world charm and contemporary living.
Transitioning from City Bustle to Canal-Side Tranquility
Life in Castelnaudary moves at a gentler pace. Instead of the relentless rush of city life, our days are filled with simple pleasures. Morning walks along the Canal du Midi have become a cherished routine, offering moments of reflection and connection with nature. The town's vibrant markets provide fresh, local produce, making daily shopping a delightful experience (Aude Tourisme). This slower lifestyle has allowed us to savor each moment, fostering a deeper appreciation for our surroundings.
Balancing Professional Pursuits in a French Dream Home
Relocating didn't mean abandoning my professional endeavors. With a background as a celebrity life and career coach, I continue to offer guidance to clients worldwide, leveraging technology to bridge distances. The serene environment of Castelnaudary has also sparked my creativity as an author, providing inspiration for new projects. Balancing work with the tranquility of small-town life has proven to be both productive and fulfilling.
Family Life in Our French Dream Home
Our family has seamlessly integrated into the community. My two teenage children have embraced their new surroundings, engaging in local schools and activities. Our household is lively, with two cats and three dogs that made the journey from the United States with us. The expansive countryside offers them ample space to explore, adding to the joy of our rural life.
Achieving and Redefining Life Goals
Realizing the dream of owning a French home has been a monumental achievement. This milestone has opened the door to new aspirations and projects. Immersing ourselves in the rich culture and history of Castelnaudary continues to be an enriching experience, fueling personal growth and community involvement.
