Explore The World
The Curious American Exploring Beauty, History, Culture, Women, and the Hidden Stories of the World
Leslie Juvin-Acker, J.D. is an on-camera host, author, and cultural storyteller based in the South of France. Through travel, conversation, food, history, interiors, spirituality, and human connection, Leslie explores the emotional truths behind the places and people that shape our world.
With warmth, intelligence, humor, and a naturally spontaneous presence on camera, Leslie invites viewers into a richer understanding of culture, identity, memory, inequality, resilience, and beauty.
Her work blends the curiosity of a traveler, the depth of a legal and cultural scholar, and the emotional instincts of a storyteller.
A Life Between Worlds
Leslie Juvin-Acker, J.D. was born on a U.S. military airbase in the Philippines to a Filipino mother and Scottish-American father.
Her early life was shaped by international environments, military culture, economic instability, intergenerational trauma, religion, and the realities of working poverty.
Raised between cultures and identities, Leslie experienced firsthand how institutions, belief systems, economics, gender roles, race, religion, and power structures influence individual lives.
Her father served in two branches of the U.S. military during the Cold War era, and Leslie spent portions of her childhood living around military communities and bases, including post-Cold War Berlin between 1991 and 1993. During this time, she visited former Nazi military sites and developed an early fascination with history, warfare, propaganda, diplomacy, and the psychological effects of political systems on ordinary people.
At home, Leslie witnessed the impact of domestic violence, scarcity, emotional instability, and generational trauma. Her mother’s experiences surviving poverty and exploitation deeply shaped Leslie’s understanding of women’s self-worth, social conditioning, religion, survival, and redemption.
Rather than allowing those experiences to define her limitations, Leslie became determined to understand how people survive adversity, how societies shape identity, and how culture can both empower and oppress.
EDUCATION & INTELLECTUAL FOUNDATION
A Lifelong Curiosity About Humanity
Leslie was identified as a gifted child and participated in gifted academic programs throughout her education. She received academic awards, scholarships, and grants, eventually becoming financially independent at just 17 years old.
Working her way through college without financial support from her family, Leslie pursued interdisciplinary studies focused on:
-
international cultures and religions
-
sociology
-
anthropology
-
political systems
-
global diplomacy
-
anti-terrorism studies
-
psychology
-
legal systems
-
inequality and institutional power
She later earned her Juris Doctor degree, deepening her understanding of how legal systems influence culture, economics, relationships, and human behavior.
Leslie’s educational and intellectual focus centers on one core question:
How do belief systems shape people — and how do people shape their destinies?
This question continues to guide her work as a host, interviewer, author, and storyteller.
